Texas Applied Anthropology Summit

Building bridges to facilitate new conversations and collaborations around applied anthropology.

People of Color Applied Anthropology Network (POCAA)

We are a community for anthropologists and those from adjacent fields who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color or a Person of the Global Majority. We are here to connect, share our work, and support each other. Please check out our events and join the conversation in Slack.

THE KICKOFF EVENT

On February 24, 2022 we held a virtual panel discussion on navigating applied anthropology careers as Persons of Color (BIPOC) or persons of the Global Majority. Panelists shared how they have negotiated their identities through their professional careers as well as the unique conditions they have faced. They also celebrated success stories as well as investigated what support is still needed for BIPOC anthropologists. To view a recording of the panel discussion click here.

Following the panel, we also hosted two affinity breakout groups to further connect—one affinity group for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color, and one affinity group for those who identify as White. * Read more about racial affinity groups and their importance here.

Please stay tuned for upcoming events!

This Slack channel is intended to provide a safe space for folks to connect, find mentors, share resources, and support one another. We will launch the Slack channel the week of Feb 17th.
